APPROVED <br />Park Board Minutes <br />February 5, 2018 <br />Page | 3 <br /> <br /> <br />Chair Huelman suggested that the Board identify funding priorities by type: playgrounds, <br />trails, shelters, and hard court (with multiple uses). The Board established the following: <br />Playground equipment – Birch Park and Sunrise Park are priorities that will be <br />presented to the council immediately so that work can commence and improvements <br />ready for the 2018 summer season; Additional comments: Rink paving at Sunrise Park <br />will be considered for possible use for pickleball, basketball; a “wow factor” element <br />such as a zip line may be considered for Sunrise park because of its central location <br />and popularity. <br />Trails – The Lake Drive trail improvement is a priority; Additional comments: Cost <br />information for Apollo Drive (a piece of the Lilac Street proposal) and Director <br />DeGardner will get an updated cost estimate; 12th Avenue should stay on the list for <br />further consideration. <br />Shelters – Not a big push this year; Additional comments: the Rec complex is a long <br />term goal so focus on improving the neighborhood facilities in the meantime. <br />Hardcourt – Director DeGardner stated that the removal of the tennis courts at Arena <br />Acres Park has created a deficiency for an activity that the residents in that area were <br />accustomed to. Perhaps some type of hard court replacement should be considered. <br />Tennis courts would fit well within the upgrade proposed at Lino Lakes Elementary. <br />The group discussed the concept of branding/identity/signage, recognizing that it can <br />be an important element for the facilities but not at a high cost through the capital <br />budget. <br />The Park Board will continue the discussion at the March and April meetings. <br />7. New Business <br />a. Rice Lake Elementary Playground Equipment Project – Director DeGardner said <br />earlier in the evening he joined the school principal and PTO president in their <br />presentation to the City Council. There is a campaign underway to fund <br />improvements to the equipment at the school playground and the park dedication <br />funding attached to the St. Clair Estates development is seen as a possibility since the
