Q2 Public Safety Update – Public Safety Director Swenson reviewed the written 15 <br />update. The report (on file) includes data on medical calls, fire division responses, 16 <br />mutual aid given and received, criminal offenses, arrest data, felony case file submissions, 17 <br />notable events, and 2018 areas of focus. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Council Member Maher asked about the status of the department’s current canine, 20 <br />Justice. Are there preparations for a replacement when that is needed? Public Safety 21 <br />Director Swenson recalled that funding has been set aside (through a donation) and 22 <br />typically dogs are retired around age 8. Council Member Maher suggested that Justice 23 <br />be brought before the council before he retires from service. 24 <br />2. Review Regular Agenda - 25 <br />Item 3B) Massage License Denial – City Clerk Bartell explained that staff received an 26 <br />application for a business and individual therapeutic massage license from Dong Mei 27 <br />Qiu. The license application was reviewed and the required background performed. 28 <br />Based on results, staff is recommending that the council deny the license request.
