CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 4A

STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Swenson, Public Safety Director

MEETING DATE: December 10, 2018

TOPIC: Replacement of Vehicle 390

VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5

INTRODUCTION

Through the vehicle forfeiture process an opportunity to replace vehicle 390 has been become
available.

BACKGROUND

As part of the 2018 and 2019 budget discussion the replacement of vehicle #390 was evaluated
per the City’s Vehicle Replacement policy and it was determined that this vehicle would not be
replaced.

An opportunity has become available to replace vehicle #390 (2009 Toyota Corolla) with a
vehicle that has been obtained through the vehicle forfeiture process. The current mileage for
vehicle #390 is 112,851 miles (November 26, 2018).

The vehicle available to the City to replace vehicle #390 is a 2017 Jeep Cherokee with 8,188
miles. This vehicle has been inspected by the City Mechanic and found to be in good working
order.

If the Council elects to move forward with this vehicle replacement, the use of forfeiture funds
is authorized use as defined by state law and Federal Equitable Sharing Rules. Use of
forfeiture funds in this manner would result in an estimated future City general fund savings of
$25,000 to $30,000. The total amount of forfeiture dollars that would be used for this vehicle
replacement would be approximately $6,000 (vehicle registration, tax, and emergency
equipment).

Attached is a photo of vehicle #390 as well as the 2017 Jeep Cherokee.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Council approve replacing vehicle 390 (2009 Toyota Corolla) with a
2017 Jeep Cherokee (VIN 1C4PJMCSXHW636191) obtained through the vehicle forfeiture
process.

ATTACHMENTS

Photo of 2017 Jeep Cherokee &Vehicle 390 (2009 Toyota Corolla)
