CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 4B

STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Swenson, Public Safety Director

MEETING DATE: December 10, 2018

TOPIC: Acceptance of Monetary Donation to Lino Lakes Public
Safety Department for Purchase of Remote-Area Enforcement &
Rescue UTV

VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5

INTRODUCTION

The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department is requesting council approval to accept a donation of
$10,000 from the Coss Family Foundation through their Grant Administrator, The Saint Paul
Foundation for the purchased of a UTV.

BACKGROUND

Public Safety staff have identified a resource that would enable first responders to easily access
remote areas of our community thus improving service delivery in these areas. Staff have
responded to emergency calls for service in remote areas of the trail system and parks within our
City where we were unable to reach individuals with a vehicle.

Attached is a proposal to utilize a 2019 Polaris Ranger Crew to address this need. This vehicle
would have a cab enclosure with seating for up to six responders, rescue stretcher, and the
interchangeable track system.

The total cost for this UTV is $33,879.08. The Coss Family Foundation has donated $10,000 for
the purchase of the UTV. If the Council wants to move forward with this purchase, this donation
will have to be accepted by the Council at the December 12th Council meeting. The remaining
$23,879.08 would be funded with forfeiture funds.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends approval of acceptance of the $10,000 donation from the Coss Family
Foundation for the purchase of Remote-Area Enforcement & Rescue Vehicle.

ATTACHMENTS

Remote-Area Enforcement & Rescue UTV Proposal
