1

City of Lino Lakes Public Safety Department
640 Town Center Parkway
Lino Lakes, MN 55014

Lightweight, Remote-Area Enforcement and Rescue
Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) Proposal
Introduction:
The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department has recognized a need for a remote-area enforcement
and rescue vehicle to aid in accessing areas throughout the City of Lino Lakes that are otherwise
inaccessible by vehicle. With over 2,500 acres of County Park, countless miles of improved and
unimproved trails, as well as several lightweight bridges, year-round emergency access to many
areas in Lino Lakes is not possible with the current emergency vehicle fleet of the Lino Lakes
Public Safety Department.
Currently, the Lino Lakes Public Safety Department does not have a lightweight, remote-area
vehicle to provide rescue assistance in remote, natural areas or on frozen lakes. There are
countless number of residents and visitors who spend time biking & hiking the remote areas in
Lino Lakes throughout the warmer months, as well as a large number of people who enjoy the
variety of winter activities the city has to offer. The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department would
like to improve upon our capabilities in remote-area medical rescues, missing person events, as
well as providing a visible public safety presence and increasing our ability to enforce applicable
laws and ordinances in the remote areas throughout Lino Lakes.
Public Safety Needs: Emergency Response, Rescue and Enforcement:
Winter:
The Chomonix Golf Course, located in the west-central part of Lino Lakes, advertises 10
kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails and snowshoe rental for the countless miles of
wooded, rolling terrain throughout the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. Wargo Nature
Center, located in the central part of Lino Lakes, also advertises Snow-shoeing classes and trails
for users. Accessing many of those trails isn’t possible with a squad car or traditional rescue
vehicle. However, all of these areas would be accessible with a lightweight, remote area rescue
UTV through a trail system which can be accessed directly from the Lino Lake Public Safety
Department facility.
