... 1005.03. Rules and Definitions. <br />Subdivision 1. Rules. The language set forth in the text of this <br />Ordinance shall be interpreted in accordance with the following rules of construc- <br />. tion: <br />(1) The singular number includes the plural, and the plural the <br />singular. <br />(2) The present tense includes the past and future tenses, and the <br />future the present. <br />(3) The words "shall" and "will" are mandatory, and the word "may" is <br />permissive. <br />(4) Whenever a word or term defined hereinafter appears in the text <br />of this Ordinance, its meaning shall be construed as set forth in <br />such definition thereof. <br />(5) The masculine gender includes the feminine and neuter genders. <br />(6) All measured distances expressed in feet shall be to the nearest <br />tenth of a foot. <br />(7) In event of conflicting provisions, the more restrictive provision <br />shall apply. <br />Subd. 2. Definitions. <br />(1) <br />Accessory Structure - A structure detached from a principal <br />building on the same lot and customarily incidental and subordi- <br />nate to the principal building or use. <br />(2) Accessory Use - A use of land or of a building or portion thereof <br />customarily incidental and subordinate to the principal use of the <br />land or building and located on the same lot with such principal <br />use. <br />(3) Addition - A structure added to the original structure at some <br />time after the completion of the original. <br />(4) Adjoining Lot or Land - A lot or parcel of land which shares all <br />or part of a common lot line with another lot or parcel of land. <br />(5) <br />Aesthetic - The perception of artistic elements, or elements in <br />the natural or man-made environment which are pleasing to the <br />eye. <br />(6) Agricultural Farm Building. An accessory building used or <br />intended for use on an active commercial food producing farm <br />operation of more than ten (10) acres. A Minnesota Pollution <br />Control Agency Permit may be required. <br />
