<br />5/29/2019 23 <br /> <br /> Staff reviews building development plans to ensure preservation of trees in tree <br />protection areas. Site inspection are completed prior and during construction to <br />ensure conformance with tree preservation plans. Assistance is provided to <br />homeowners and builders to protect existing trees or coordinate tree mitigation. <br /> <br />Ensure that new development meets code for saving trees and take advantage of the <br />opportunity to remove tree threats like EAB, structurally unsound trees, or <br />undesirable trees. Periodically inspect construction site for intact tree preservation <br />fence. <br /> <br />BOULEVARD TREE PLANTINGS/TREE SALES (F2) <br /> <br />Staff plans, bids, and contracts annual plantings of boulevard trees for new properties and <br />replacement of existing trees. <br /> <br />TASKS <br />F2.1 Boulevard Tree Planting <br /> Late winter or early spring, inventory new developments for anticipated boulevard <br />plant readiness. Develop a list of species and numbers and send out for bids. Almost <br />always this list changes as planting time gets closer. For example, a house was <br />finished building sooner than was anticipated or a storm caused a remove and replace <br />situation. <br /> <br />If you wait too long and you won’t get the trees you want. Recommend getting 3 <br />bids-Midwest, Margolis, and an additional company. Have to estimate if house will <br />be done in time sometimes. Contractor calls in locates and the city stakes location. <br />Send a letter out to residents explaining process. Trees must be in line going down <br />street. Stakes can move laterally back and forth on lot as long as utilities are clear. <br />No planting 30 feet from a corner. Mix species, no more than 15% of any species in <br />planting areas. May be ok to mix species on each street. Environmental Coordinator <br />to supervise the planting of trees. Trees are recorded in Cartegraph. <br /> <br />Inspect new trees for 1 year warranty next spring or before 1 year warranty expires. <br />Have dead trees replaced. <br /> <br />Water new trees when droughty with City tanker. Started using Gators on new trees. <br />F2.2 Tree Sale <br /> Coordinate an annual tree sale through the City and Anoka Conservation District. <br />Write an article for tree orders in Winter Newsletter. Order trees based on signups <br />and hand out during annual recycling day. Get volunteers to help with tree <br />disbursement. <br /> <br />
