CIP Request 2020 (Police)

#383

#383 is a Ford Police Interceptor (Sedan) that was built in May of 2012. It is used as an “unmarked
patrol vehicle” by the Public Safety Department. It is well over the 5 year minimum for police vehicles and it
will in fact be close to 8 years old by the time a replacement vehicle would arrive to replace it next year. It
currently has 100,353 miles. The Minnesota winters have taken it’s toll on it’s undercarriage and it has
signifcantly more rust on the structural components than any of the other police vehicles. The rust will only
continue to get worse and I would recommend replacement of this vehicle for the 2020 budget year. On top
of the significant rust and worn out components, when inspected it was discovered that the coolant reservoir
was considerably low on coolant. During our inspection we were unable to find any external coolant leaks at
this time. It would take further diagnosis to confirm with certainty, but if this engine is indeed burning coolant
it would lead to a very costly and time consuming repair. This vehicle would be my first priorty for
replacement in the police fleet.

78
