CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: October 14, 2019 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Paid On-Call Firefighters <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Kylie Haffke and Alexander Haffke for <br />Paid On-Call Firefighter positions at Fire Station 2. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Currently, the City has 8 firefighters at Fire Station 1 and 11 firefighters and Fire Station 2. A <br />total count of 20 firefighters per station is considered fully staffed. At this time, staff has gone <br />through a recruitment process, provided conditional offers, and is recommending the approval of <br />Kylie Haffke and Alexander Haffke for Paid On-Call Firefighter positions. <br /> <br />Kylie Haffke brings with her experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a <br />short background of previous firefighting experience from a different state. <br /> <br />Alexander Haffke currently works as an emergency department technician and also brings with <br />him a short background in firefighting from a different state. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay for both would be at the pre-service training wage of $9.50 an hour. <br /> <br />With the Council’s approval, both Kylie and Alexander would start in Paid On-Call Firefighter <br />positions before the end of October. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Kylie Haffke and Alexander Haffke for Paid On-Call Firefighter <br />positions at Fire Station 2. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
