CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3B <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: October 28, 2019 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Environmental Coordinator <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Andrew Nelson to the Environmental <br />Coordinator position in the Community Development Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Current Environmental Coordinator Marty Asleson is retiring with the City at the end of <br />November. At this time, staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional <br />offer, and is recommending the approval of Andrew Nelson for the position. <br /> <br />Nelson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation Biology and has over ten years of experience <br />in forestry and natural resources. Nelson also is a certified arborist, tree inspector, and holds a <br />pesticide applicator license. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $31.79, which is step 3 of the wage schedule. The wage schedule <br />has 6 steps. <br /> <br />With the Council’s approval, Nelson would start in the position before the end of November. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Andrew Nelson for the Environmental Coordinator position. <br /> <br /> <br />
