CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3C <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: October 28, 2019 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Police Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Matthew Carlson to a vacant Police <br />Officer position in the Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />There are two vacant Police Officer positions within the Public Safety Department. At this <br />time, staff has completed a recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is <br />recommending the approval of Matthew Carlson for the position. <br /> <br />Mr. Carlson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice, meets all <br />POST mandated requirements to be a Police Officer in the State, and brings with him seven <br />years of experience as a Police Officer. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $32.91, which is in between step two and three of the union <br />wage schedule. The wage schedule has four steps. <br /> <br />With the Council’s approval, Carlson would start in the position of Police Officer near the end <br />of November. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Matthew Carlson for the Police Officer position. <br /> <br /> <br />
