Memo
Environmental
To: Katie Larsen
From: Marty °c1^Andy Nelson
Date: October 3, Marrh 1, 2020
Re: Environmental Recommendations for Stern Addition
The following recommendations were made by the Lino Lakes Environmental Board
on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 concerning the Stern Addition:
No soils are to be imported without approval from the City Engineer
2. It is suggested that the green space disconnect be planted with a low
nitrogen, alternative lawn grass such as the alternative lawn fescues.
Recommend low maintenance fescue (such as Mn/DOT 25-131) between the
two restoration shoreland buffer areas.
3. The DNR standards for shoreland should be applied, including minimizing
vegetation loss, and a buffer from the lake that must average 20 feet.
Landscaping in this area would exclude sod -type grasses that are mowed.
The property owner should submit a planting plan for alternative ground cover
in this area. This could consist of native forbs and grasses, or where there are
existing trees, a shade tolerant woodland seed mix, or alternative no -mow
lawn. A garden area based on design of Rice Creek Watershed, or
Conservation District models are also acceptable.
0 Page 1
i ne LanUscape Hlan caiis mi wimuv i suuu mix ,)4-271, which would be
appropriate for the areas without heavy tree cover. 36-211 may be a better
option for the northeast portion of the new parcel that has more canopy cover.
It is recommended that a firm experienced in native plant shoreline
restorations be hired for seed installation and preparation of a long-term
management plan.
