They are continuing their pilot program for food grade Styrofoam. Staff are testing to see if the material will <br />mix with the other block and shape Styrofoam currently being processed, and to see if residents will be able <br />to follow the needed standards. The food grade polystyrene must be clean and solid white, no print. <br />The city continues to work on battery recycling. Colleen has been working closely with Ahnika Hesbjerg, <br />Anoka County Problem Materials Program Specialist, on addressing some of the items our vendors will not <br />accept. <br />The on -site shredding has been moved indoors for the winter season. Masks are required that cover both <br />the mouth and nose. If residents are not compliant, the shredding services will be pulled for the season. Staff <br />are watching this closely as COVID cases rise in the county. Colleen will monitor and notify if they decide to <br />change course. <br />In addition, the city will start going out for quotes for 2021 service providers at the recycling center. <br />East Bethel, Cindy Hillyard — via e-mail. Drop-off Saturdays at the Recycle Center are going very well. <br />The next drop-off Saturday is October 31. <br />Fridley, Rachel Workin — Sue Doll announced that Rachel's program initiatives for the City of Fridley were <br />selected to receive a 2020 Public Health and Environmental Services Award. A plaque was presented to <br />Rachel at a recent county board meeting. Congratulations, Rachel! <br />Rachel shared that: <br />0o Residents are now being offered the option to purchase compostable materials at cost when renting <br />park shelters through online rental system. <br />0o An onsite drop-off event in November is being planned for residents in manufactured housing through <br />Green Lights Recycling. <br />oo Pumpkins will be collected at Springbrook Nature Center November 1-9. <br />oc Holiday Lights are being collected for recycling at City Hall in December and January. <br />Ham Lake, Jennifer Bohr — via email. A recycling event was held at City Hall on September 12. Public <br />Works staff that manned the event stated that there seemed to be less traffic than past events. Once all <br />invoices have been received for the materials collected, we can compare 2019 tonnage to 2020. <br />Jennifer is currently pulling together information to publish in the City's annual recycling newsletter. <br />Ham Lake will host one more recycling event for 2020, at Green Lights Recycling on December 5. <br />Lino Lakes, Andrew Nelson <br />Two more Recycling Saturday events are scheduled this year. Thanks to Sue for providing helpful <br />information when they unexpectedly thought they may lose one of their drop-off vendors. <br />Linwood, Paul Deuth — One of the sheds at their drop-off has been set up to collect small household goods. <br />It's being called the "Re -shed" since the shed was the original recycling center that Linwood had when their <br />program began in the 1990's. Durable, re -useable items are also collected outside near the repurposed <br />shed. <br />Nowthen, Ellen Lendt — The recycling center is currently open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm <br />and Saturdays from 9 am to noon. No word about a community cleanup day as of yet. <br />Oak Grove, Katie Kalland and Jessica Rieland — The recycling center is open daily. <br />St. Francis, Tom Koep — via e-mail. <br />A recycling event was held on Saturday, October 24, from 8 am to 2 pm. Turnout was lower than years <br />past as was the tonnage. Numbers aren't available yet, but Tom doesn't think they broke any records. <br />Paper shredding and mattresses were the big hit with residents. <br />The city will have another small recycle event with Lepage and Sons on November 21, from 8 am to noon. <br />That will be the last event for 2020. <br />
