Park Board
June 6 ( 1983
Page Three
Mr . Flannery was concerned with the quality of the park - felt that the
quality of the park was not there.
Mr . Scherer restated his feeling in that the park should be scrapped.
He felt the money spent to develope this park could be better spent on
other parks in the City .
There was a question of whether these problems had been checked into')
before the application for the grant was filed. Mr. Schumacher pointed
out that only a small portion of the shore line was to be used and there
was dredging proposed for just that area .
Mr. Scherer suggested calling Mayor Benson and Mrs . Elsenpeter to get
their opinion on this matter.
Mr. Schumacher suggested asking Mr. Jambois to attend a Park Board meet-
ing and discuss this matter.
The general consensus of the Park Board was they felt this should be
done and someway salvage some part of the Grant and alter the plans for
the development of this park area .
Mr. Lindy offered to take Mr . Jambois on the lake and any one else who
cared to go . Mr. Johnson requested Mr . Schumacher to notify the members
of the Board when this is scheduled.
Any decision was tabled at this time and an update to be on the July
agenda .
OLD BUSINESS
An update on the BMX track was discussed. Mr. Johnson asked for Council
direction on this matter. Mayor Benson discussed the Country Lakes Park
noting the areas where he thought development could take place and the
things that could be done with that park .
Mr. Schumacher reported that the BMX Track proposal had been before the
Council on two separate occasions and approval had been given for the
installation of the track, however, the Council had some questions on
the laibility insurance and had rqquested the City Attorney to check this
out . The matter should be on the agenda for June 13 , 1983 meeting.
The basic concern is three wheelers getting onto the track and ruining
it . There is one section that should be fenced.
Mr. Johnson asked if Mr. Klienhans had been able to come up with financial
backing and Mr . Schumacher said he had .
The Park Board asked Mr. Volk to put together a cost estimate for the
installation of the needed fencing. Mr. R . Johnson reported that the
Lions Club had requested Mr. Volk to get the cost figures for platic
type fencing. These figures should be ready for the July meeting.
Mr . R . Johnson asked if the location had been discussed? He suggested
that this track be kept as close to the NE corner of the park as possible .
The Board members agreed. This would leave as much of the area open as
possible .
