Park Board
April 5 , 1982
Page Three
USE OF SUNRISE PARK BALL FIELDS
This request is for the use of the soft ball fields for a tournament June
1982 . There was a $50 . 00 check for the deposit on the cleaning of the
Park at the end of the tournament . There was some discussion on this fee
- is that enough? or should this be raised?
Mr. Lindy moved to recommend approval of this request of the Lexington
Fire Department and the American Legion for the use of the ball fields
for a tournament in June, 1982 . Any additional clean up will be the
responsiblity of the two agencies or the cost will be assessed to them .
Seconded by Mrs . LeBlond . Motion carried unanimously .
OLD BUSINESS
Mrs . LeBlond had no report as to the projects for the J .C ' s .
Mr. Flannery reported on the horse trail idea. He reported that he had
met with some persons from the Northwest Saddle Club and they were very
enthussiastic about the idea of have a horse trail that would loop and
stay within the City limits . It was suggested this be set up to include
the various facilities already in existence . Mr . Flannery did not feel
the cost would be very much . What he needs is a map showing all the park
and open space within the City. Mr . Flannery suggested this could be a
multiple use facility - horses in summer - snowmobiles or cross country
skiing in the winter .
Mr . Flannery said he would like to sit down with some persons from the
Northwest Saddle Club and discuss this , formulate some ideas and then
come back with a report .
Mr . K. Johnson felt that this is more work and he appointed Mrs . LeBlond
to work with Mr . Flannery on this proposal .
Mr. Volk was asked to prepare a map showing the parks and the open space
within the City for use by this Committee , to include horse clubs , arenas ,
etc . This map to indicate if the land is State owned , City owned , County
owned, etc .
Mr . Lindy asked the status of the Senior Citizen ' s Center - Mrs . Elsenpeter
reported that the building is still in the design process . There was a
general understanding that a building committee will be formed . As of this
date this committee has not been formed. Mr . Scherer and Mr . K. Johnson
will be working on this committee . They requested that they be kept in-
formed so that they can have some input on this .
There was quite a lot of discussion on the manner in which this building
could be constructed , with the subject of asking for donated assistance
from the local developers in order to keep the cost down .
The Park Board requested that the Council set up the committee for the
Senior Citizen ' s Center and get a meeting set up .
Mrs . Elsenpeter reported on a bike trail being set up by Shoreview to go
North on Highway #49 to Birch . She suggested that Anoka County Highway
Department for the surfacing of the shoulders for a link to this bike trail .
