Park Board Meeting
March 2, 1981
Page Two
then these changes must be presented to Council for their approval .
Mr. Scherer wondered why the Park Board members were not receiving copies
of the Council minutes and asked that these minutes be included in their
packets .
Mr. Volk returned to the allocations and noted that approximately $8800 . 00
out of the entire dollar amount allocated to these projects could be used
differently, this would include the completion of the parking lots in
Sunrise Park with the City Crews doing the work.
Mr. Scherer moved that in consideration of the amount to be saved in
various areas , that the City crews be authorized to put in the parking
lots in Sunrise Park. Seconded by Mr. Arntzen . Motion carried uannimous;
Mrs. LeBlond questioned the time frame for the completion of these lots
and Mr. Volk said he would- like to have them finished by the end of
June - particularly the South Lot . Mr. Volk pointed out these are just
graveled lots - not surfaced.
Mr. Volk suggested hotding off on the/development of the Country Lakes
Park - he felt there would be a LAWCON Grant Application - and asking the
Council to allow the use of the $9000 . 00 allocated for use in this Park
to be used for Tot Lot development in City Hall and Sunrise Park.
Mr. Volk presented some suggestions as to the development of the Tot Lots
- with the money already allocated and the addiditon of these funds .
There would be a total of $7110. 00 to be used at City Hall Park and
$6270. 00 to be used at Sunrise.
The Park Board has been presented with brochures on various styles of
playground equipment . Mr. Volk asked that they consult these catalogs
and follow along with his suggestions for the addition to and deletion
from some of the equipment. This would be a combination of equipment
from several companies . Mr. Volk felt by designing the structures to
fit the anticipated needs, the Park Board would be getting the maximum
equipment for the money spent . The system he had designed would cost
$6430. 00 for each park, with an additional 439 . 00 for a 3/seat swing set
for City Hall Park. for a total expenditure of $13,299 . 00 . This amount
is within the allocatedfunds with the changes as proposed by the Park
Board.
Mr. Johnson moved to request the Council to release funds allocated to
Country Lakes Parks and be designated to be used in City Hall Park and
Sunrise Park per the specifications presented by Mr. Volk for the
development of the Tot Lots in those two parks . Seconded by Mr.
Arntzen . Total Costs to be approximately $13 . 299 . 00 . Motion carried
unanimously.
Mr . Volk explained the reasons for the vacation of the small parcel of
land dedicated for a park in Shenandoah I. This parcel had been on the
South side of the street and the remaining portion of the park had been
on the North side of the street . This larger portion of the park borders
on lands in Shenandoah II and the City will receive $4500 . 00 from the
Shenandoah II plat for the use of developing this park.
