December 1 , 1980
Park Board
Page Two
very hard over the last few years and have not seen any results of their
work.
There was a question as to the status of the building proposed for the City
Hall Park. It was explained that to construct this building at this time
would deplete the park funds . The general consensus of the City Council
was this money would be better spent developing some of the parks already
in use .
Mayor Gourley presented the Resolution passed by the City Council authoriz-
ing the Park Board to get estimates and proceed with teh planned work
scheduled in the C .I.P .
There was some discussion on the possibility of a bond issue for the
constr4ction of the building at the City Hall Park. There was also dis-
cussion of the time frame necessary if this matter were to be Put on the
ballot .
The Park Board questioned the use of tax monies by that department - they
felt that they did not use any tax levy . Mr. Schumacher pointed out that
there is $29 , 000 . 00 in the Park Budget for 1931 and this is all tax levy .
Mr. SCherer moved to contact the firm that had presented the ideas on the
bond issue for the construction of the building and ask them to return to
a park board meeting and get something worked up to work toward a bond
^\ issue . Seconded by Mr . Foster. There was some discussion on how the
costs of such an issue would be paid . It was suggested that the firm be
requested to attend the next Park Board meeting and the questions could be
asked at taht meeting. It was also suggested that a representative from
the Council be present at that meeting. The motion carried unanimously .
There was a suggestion that perhaps several firms could be contacted on
this matter - not just the one .
Mayor Gourley presented some preliminary figures for the installation of
some of the factilites authorized in the Resolution , also , some alternatives
that would keep the park board within the funds allocated , such as using
lime rock for the parking lots .
The up-dating of the tot lots at Sunrise and City Hall Park - Mr. Volk said
two Suppliers are preparing complete layouts for him with cost figures .
This is the type of equipment that can be started small and added on to as
.funds become available .
The hockey rink and lights at Sunrise Park were estimated at $16 ,000 . 00 .
Mr. Volk presented his proposal for the construction of the rink which
could reduce the cost to approximately $13,900 . 00 .
Mr. Scherer moved to approve the purchase of the lumber from Stewart Lumber
Co. Seconded by Mr . Foster . Motion carried.
1 The landscaping costs will probably be available for the January meeting.
Mayor Gourley said they would be contacting the service clubs in the area
for perhaps some assistance on this Project .
Mr. Volk presented the estimated fencing needed and approximate costs .
Mr. Scherer moved to adjourn .
