Mr. Schumacher said he would like to bring this before <br /> the Council . Mr. Scherer felt this was not necessary since money was <br /> already budgeted for planning expenses . Mr. Foster asked if Sunrise and <br /> Country Lakes Parks could be designed with the $2 ,000 . Mr. Schumacher <br /> felt this would not be a problem. Mrs . Sears asked if Mrs . Sullivan could <br /> give an estimate on Sunrise Park this week. She said if both parks <br /> could be done for the $2,000 she would prefer this . Mrs . Sullivan said <br /> she did not know yet . <br /> Mr. Scherer moved to ask the Council to give the Park Board authority <br /> to hire Mrs . Sullivan to design both Sunrise Park and Country Lakes Park <br /> with Country Lakes Park being the priority . Mr. Johnson seconded the <br /> motion. Motion declared passed . <br /> The next item on the agenda is the LAWCON grant . Mr. Schumacher explained <br /> that the State had ranked the City 4th and the Metropolitan Council had <br /> ranked the City at the bottom and the overall ranking was 14th . Mr. Schum- <br /> acher had talked to a number of people at Metro Council and gained consider- <br /> able knowledge of how to go about this process in the future . Lino Lakes <br /> needs to build a better working relationahip with Metro Council and let <br /> them know what we are trying to do . Also funds were cut way back this year . <br /> Mr. Shaughnessy asked who are these Metro Council members and how are they <br /> ,ppointed. Mr. Scherer said the governor: appoints them. Mr . Schumacher <br /> Schumacher <br /> Nid he felt that next years application will be better drafteaJ because <br /> �ie criteria is now better understood. Mrs . Liljedahl felt the City should <br /> have better contact with Metro. <br /> Mr. Scherersaid that this City is not progressive enough and the Council <br /> should let the Boards operate and have enough faith in them. If they <br /> do not have faith in the Boards they should not appoint them. <br /> Mr. Schumacher said another area in which the application was ranked very <br /> low was housing. We do not have diversified housing. <br /> Mr. Schumacher said the Metro criteria will be reviewed in February . <br /> Mrs . Liljedahl said she feels at this point there will be no new building <br /> at City Hall Park. But she felt some of the other things planned such as <br /> ice rinks could be started now. At this point the parks are maintained well <br /> but other than that the Council has not seen fit to go along with any <br /> development . Mr. Scherer said he felt that this community is not interested <br /> in parks . Mr. Schumacher felt the survey prepared by the East Shadow Lake <br /> residents was a good idea . It can stimulate some involvement by the community. <br /> Mrs . Liljedahl said she would like to set up some criteria and get moving on <br /> something. Mr. Johnson suggested something be added to the tax levy to improve <br /> the parks not just maintain them. There was further discussion of the Park <br /> Board roll and the fact they must go to the Council for approval of all <br /> ,,�pendi Lures . <br /> Mr. Volk presented some-literature on park & playground equipment . He sugg- <br /> ested holding a workshop to discuss possible plans for equipment and take <br /> it to the Council . <br />
