Page 3
Park Board, May 7, 1979
Mr. Scherer brought up the matter of how the Council determines the cash payment
in lieu of land for the Park Board. Mr. Shaughnessy moved the Park Board
recommend that the Council reassess this system, considering a 50 percent
increase; and that this be reassessed or reevaluated on an annual basis as of
June 1 of each year. He also felt cost-of-living increases should be considered.
Seconded by Mr. Scherer. Motion declared passed.
Mr. Scherer made a motion to recommend to the Council that a fee of $150 per
living unit along with a yearly increase according to the cost-of-living index
be collected. Seconded by Mr. Shaughnessy. Motion declared passed. This
recommendation had been previously made to the Council February 6, 1978. The
Park Board felt this should be considered particularly in relation to land
designated by meets and bounds.
Mr. Cheesebrough moved that the Council approve the fabrication and installation
of a sign on the City Hall Park, size not to exceed 8 x 10, prices to be ascer-
tained by Mr. Volk and bids, if any, presented to the Council for consideration.
Motion seconded by Mr. Shaughnessy. Motion declared passed. Mr. Volk said he
would check on the possibilities of having the Vo-Tech school (916) do the
work on the sign.
Mrs. Liljedahl read a police department report concerning a complaint and
minor incident in one of the parks. She noted that this has been the first
one received by the Park Board this year.
There was some discussion about the Park Board's plan to combine adjacent pieces
of property from two plats to form one larger park area.
Mrs. Liljedahl brought up for discussion the problem of reservations for ball
fields in the parks during the summer. At present it is not required to specify
whether the reservation is for practice or for a game. Mrs. Liljedahl moved
that during the summer months, reservations on ball fields for practice use
should be contingent on a game being played there when no other fields are
available. Mr. Shaughnessy seconded the motion. Motion declared passed. Mrs.
Liljedahl also noted that the standard ratio is two practices to a game per
week.
It was noted that a gentleman from the Junior Chamber of Commerce on the agenda
for the evening had not arrived.
Mr. Shaughnessy moved to adjourn at 9:50 p.m. Seconded by Mr. Cheesebrough.
Motion declared passed.
