Page 1 - January 29, 1976 <br /> The first regular schedule meeting of the Park, Recreational and Enviornment <br /> Commission was called to order at 8:05 P.M. on January 20, 1976 by Council <br /> liaison, Mr. Schneider. Member present; Liljedahl, Gredvig. Ringaman, Scherer. <br /> Absent; Hanson Olson, Resch. <br /> Mr. Schneider introduced himself and told the Board that he hbd asked Mr. <br /> McLean to attedd this meeting in order to fill the new members in on the past <br /> operations of this Bogrd. <br /> He had thought he would like an informal discussion before the elections in <br /> order for the members to become better acquainted with one another. He asked <br /> each of the members to introduce themselves and give a short sketch of what <br /> they do and what they feel should be acc&Vlished by this Board in the coming <br /> year. <br /> Mr. Randy Ringaman is a nuclear products technican for 3M Co. and lives in the <br /> Lexington Park Lakeview area. He is interested in reducing the cost and wou. ; <br /> take a conservative approach placing the emphasis on maintaining the present <br /> ;)arks. <br /> Dias. Ina Liljedahl lives in the Twilite Acres area. She felt that in her wor": <br /> :nth the people of the area in conjunction with the school and her Church, <br /> :he need is to inform the people of the availability of the Parks. She felt <br /> there should be a better understanding on the part of the people as to the <br /> ^. :z^e of the parks. <br /> fl.r. Ted Gredvig lives in the Country Lakes area and is on the Governor's <br /> Council for Aging. He said he has only lived in this area for a couple of <br /> years and is not too familar with the parks. He said there is a lot of open <br /> E,,pace in the area and he felt that this partictlar area is due for expansion <br /> in the next 10 to 20 years. He will take time to become familar with the Parks <br /> and the City government. <br /> Mr. Peter Scherer lives on 64th Street on the East side of the City. He is <br /> retired and self-employed. He has worked for the City in other areas but has <br /> never been involved with the Parks. He would like to see the Parks upgraded <br /> at the lowest cost possible and to let the people know of the parks. <br /> Mx. Schnieder noted that all members have a copy of the Ordinance establishing <br /> s. ?is Commission. He reminded the members that this Board is advisory and all <br /> recommendations must be approved by Council action. The active parks in the <br /> testy are Sunrise, Lino and the Hall property with a small plat in LaMotte's <br /> Second Addition located on the East side of Centerville Lake.He said some work <br /> had been done on establishing a bike trail, there is a new well at Sunrise <br /> 7-ark and one being drilled at the Hall property, there had been discussion of <br /> the need for expanding the warming house at Sunrise and the construction of <br /> -ch a building at the Hall Park. There is a need for playground equipment. <br /> -!'his Board is restricted by the budget and even theugh there is approximately <br /> 120,000.00 in the budget for Park purposes, thi£a money may not be available <br /> for expenditures since the park department is last on the list of priorities. <br /> rr. Schneider asked Mr. McLean for his comments on the past action of this <br /> board. Mr. McLean said there had been discussion of the upgrading of the lot <br /> in LaMotte's Second Addition to the status of a "Tot Lot". The area is not <br /> ig enough for a ball dismond of any size. The area needs to be graded and <br /> seeded with some equipment. The Lino Park has been undergoing a renovation <br />
