n - Page 2 - January 19, 1976
under a joint effort of the Lino Lions' Club and the City. The Lions' Club
has completed their committment to that Park. He would suggest the trees and
shrubs be put in this year and assistance can be obtained from the Metropolitan
Training Center with that prdject. Some sort of identifying sign needs to be
installed. Mr. McLean suggested a rough board with the name routed out and
painted in a bright color.
There is in the budget monies for re-liming all the ball fields this year.
Also, safety fences and beaches for the players. There had been some discussion
as to assistance from the VFW in this area.
Mr. McLean was asked about a hockey rink at Lino Park and said the area would
need a lot of work before a hockey rink could be installed. The ares is
quite low and present a drainage problem. He felt the original should be corn--
pleted and marked as such.
At Sunrise Park there are two hockey rinks and a pleasure rink. Both hockey*
rinks are lighted. There is an adequate warming house and the new well pro-
vides all the needed water. There is also a secondary use of that well for
sprinkling the ball dsamonds in the summer. This could not be done with the
old well. The playground equipment at that park has been painted and is ., in
fairly good repair
Mr. Ringaman asked if the ball diamonds wer ag-limed each year and Mr. McLean
said, No, just the past two years. The ro p posaZ for 1976 would re-lime all
the fields at once. It requires about 22 tons per field.
Mr. McLean said in the summer the City uses the Youth available from the
County. This reduces the cost of maintenance as these workers are available
at practically no cost to the City.
The well at the Hall property is now being completed. This well will also
serve a dual purpose. Some landscaping can be done around the City Hall as
there will be water available for sprinkling. The long range plans call for
a Hockey rink to be developed at this location. it will have to be done in
stages such as the rink one year and the lights the next. There is also the
need for a warming house but Mr. McLean said the possiblility of using a corner
of the garage as temporary quarters had been discussed by the former Board.
This would be installedin the Northwest corner of the garage and has an out-
side door. All that is needed is the materials to block in that area and
some extension of the lights. He felt it could be done for around $250.00
and is much more practical than leasing a trailer such as was done several
Years ago. The last estimate for a warming house was approximately $10,000.00.
Mr. Ringaman asked if any bids had come in for that building and Mr. McLean
said there h&d never been an advertisement for bids. This had not been
Puthorized by the Council. Mr. McLean felt the proposal to use part of the
garage for this purpose was a way to provide a quick facility.
Mrs. Liliedahl thought the rink that was in use several years ago had been
w&11 used but thought that in the future some restrictions would have to be
put on the hockey players.
The Clerk was instructed to get copies of the proposed budget for the members
and also a copy of the budget prepared by the Park Board.
