f 0
about community gardening. Barry said we have tried a gardening
club in the past and have had some success. Cathy explained that
she does not want a club, but when she goes out and tries to
plant things, it doesn't work. Cathy thought to get in a master
gardener to talk about a variety of topics on gardening. Pam
thought of introduction to flowers and introduction to
vegetables. Lawn care was another topic that was brought up by
Pam. The committee thought that with new developments and new
homes that people do not understand how to properly maintain
lawns. Kids and adult exercise program, Barry mentioned that in
the past we offered a program called Family Fitness Exercise.
Barry said about twelve people had pre-registered for this
program. Barry continued to say that this program is hoped to be
offered again but gym space is the limiting factor.
Barry continued the discussion on the brochure. The discussion
was raised to increase the number of times the document will be
mailed. Having the document in the city news letter Barry said
this was being discussed at the present time. Cathy thought
school flyers would be a good way of getting information out.
Barry agreed and said that this was being done, but pointed out
the fact that he would like to train residents to refer to the
brochure to get program information. Barry explained we did have
a city festival before and that a road race was an event of the
program. The issue of 3 on 3 soccer came up and Barry ask if any
one in attendance came up with this idea. The committee thought
the person was looking at a semi casual program that was operated
like our three player basketball with no officials, but
regulations governing the program. Kitten ball for teens program
was discussed and the committee discussed that they thought that
the person who brought forward this idea was Dan Kieger. The
committee thought that Dan was seeking a one day event, no
league, limited time commitment and casual. Brian mentioned that
Dan' s son would like to become involved with the teen sub
committee. Barry mentioned he would contact Dan.
The next program topic was in-line skating. Barry said that this
was a very popular activity and growing in popularity. Barry
said that this program does have its risks. Injuries have risen
from this activity. Barry informed the committee that the Park
Board had instructed him to seek information on a portable in-
line skating rink called boarder patrol. Barry explained that
the Park Board was looking into placing a tar mat at a permanent
hockey rink or using this system. Barry explained that the
advantage with this system could be placed all over the city.
The cost of this system is about $4500.00 . He continued to say
that is easy to assemble and disassemble. Cathy asked where this
system would be set up and Barry stated that the parking lots
within our parks could be a place to set this system up. Cathy
asked if this was o.k. Pam interjected and mentioned that bike
rodeos are operated in parking lots. Barry mentioned that we
would have to sign and barrier the parking lot for safety. Brad
specified that the surface would have to be very smooth. Barry
continued to say that this boarding system is one foot high.
