asked about comments from a Performance In the Parks program, in
particular, My Generation. She asked why some of the people did
not like this group. Barry explained that this group was very
loud and he was misled in the type of music they played. He
thought they would play more bubble gum music and they played
more of a hard rock variety of music. Barry brought up that it
is anticipated that these performance will start earlier and end
earlier. Barry mentioned that bringing in a bigger group might
be tried. Cathy brought up a point of having the bigger group as
a separate event. Barry eluded that at the present time we do
not have a location conducive to having a controlled entrance.
Brian finished the conversation on the evaluation form by asking
Barry if this information could be placed onto a graph to
illustrate comparisons from year to year. Barry said he will try
and work on it.
Barry lead the topic of what was discussed at the last meeting on
development of further programs. Barry was enthused when he
looked over the programs that were brought up by the members of
this group. Barry mentioned that at times his focus of programs
needs to be widened. He continued to say that it was interesting
that several of these activities were not "active" programs.
Barry then asked about specific programs that were listed from
the previous meeting. Maple syruping, Cathy said she was looking
at this as a one day, short amount of time event possibly run at
Wargo Nature Center. Pam said that she new of a couple locations
that offered this type of activity. Barry said the department is
looking at working with Wargo on future programming in the
Summer. Cathy mentioned that "come that day programs" it seems
that people don't come, you forget. Pam asked why don't we sell
advertising to the nature center. Barry mentioned that the
department is looking into selling advertising space in our
brochure. He continued to say that currently we do mention, in
our brochure, facts about Wargo Nature Center. Pam asked if we
as a group could see some examples of brochures that do sell
advertising space. Barry said that with the increasing cost of
the production and mailing of the brochure alternatives for
payment are being looked at. Another program that was brought up
for discussion was Orienteering. Brian thought this would be an
interesting program offering. Cathy explained what was involved
in this program. Pam mentioned about a camp in Loretto, MN where
young people are able to do a variety of outdoor activities such
as this one. Cathy placed a question to the content if we would
like to make this a contest or just for fun. Barry continued the
conversation on Tree pruning. Cathy is looking for a short
program that could inform her on the proper techniques. Barry
thought this was an interesting program idea. He said that with
the big problem of Oak Wilt in Lino Lakes this could be a good
1-N way to inform people of the problems if they don't prune their
trees correctly. The next topic that was brought up was
gardening. Barry asked if any one brought up this idea. Cathy
was looking possibly at a variety of topics. Pam asked what
