CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1994
F. Shoreview Building: Marty said he had talked to Jerry Hafman
and he informed him that the building would not be available to
the Park Department this fall. They are not going to be building
their new building this fall so they will need to use it this
winter. Marty also said he had talked to John LaCasse and he
will do a site plan for the board to look at. George said we
should be proactive in planning this so when the building becomes
available we are ready to put it together. He thought we should
also plan ahead so if a bituminous mat is going to be laid for
in-line skating it can also be done.
OLD BUSINESS•
There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS•
A. Volunteer Recognition: Marty said that he and Barry had
discussed this issue and they feel it would be nice if the Park
Board could give recognition to volunteers. One group that came
to mind was Jean Briggs and the Girl Scout Troop that had
,. fulfilled their Adopt-A-Park contract at Lino Park. They have
cleaned up the park twice, planted flowers, and watched the park
for things that were wrong and called him to let him know. Marty
said it would be nice if the girl scouts were invited to a Park
Board meeting and given individual certificates of appreciation
or a group plaque. He also suggested the media be invited to the
meeting so they could take pictures. Other people or groups that
can be recognized are volunteer coaches, special events
volunteers, and neighborhood groups. George stated that if
Barry, Marty or anyone else sees something that a group or
individual does, that is extraordinary and merits attention,
they recognize and thank them. Recognition should be done right
away and not put off.
RECOMMENDATION: Ken Johnson made a recommendation that a
Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Lino Lakes, with the
mayor' s signature, be given to Jean Brigg' s Girl Scout Troop at
the next Park Board meeting.
B. Trail Dedication Ordinance:
Marty explained the reason he started thinking about this was
because of the amount of dollars we spend to build trails. He
said the money the City spends, to build trails, could be used
for purchasing playground equipment or provide other services and
facilities. He stated the purpose of this proposal is to amend
the present trail ordinance to include the provision requiring
6
