Dan Kieger brought
the point up that the teen committee could have a problem with
logistics between the separate school districts and could
possibly be the committees downfall. Dan Kieger continued to
explain that the Centennial group has been organized but if a
teen center was built, by the highway, it could service both
groups effectively.
TEEN FOCUS: Marty showed the committee an article that appeared
in the Star and Tribune Newspaper on June 12, 1994 . The article
was titled "Parks or Prisons" (see attached. Marty also made
copies of a National Recreation and Parks Association survey on
youth and what they like to do (see attached) . Marty eluded to
the fact if the committee forms a survey it should be broke down
into separate age and user groups. Rob Schleicher answered with
enthusiasm "lets get started! " Marty brought up the fact that
Brandon Young, Lino Lakes Police Officer, would like to work with
the teen committee. Brian Bourassa asked when the first meeting
would take place and what would be covered at this meeting.
Marty asked Rob when would be the best time for this to happen.
Dan Kieger mentioned that summer is so busy for everyone, but
this should happen before school starts. He also mentioned that
one of his children would like to be on the committee. Brian
Bourassa stated that Marty should make the primary contact with
the interested teen committee members on the list. Brian asked
what would happen at the first meeting. Marty said the first
meeting would give everyone a chance to meet one another. He
also mentioned that this would be the opportunity to gain trust
and rapport with this group. Marty stated that a dance would be
a lot of work.
SURVEY: Ray Weber mentioned the questions should be short and
simple. Ray also mentioned that the Comprehensive Park Plan has
valuable information within it. Ray asked what would you like to
see and get out of a survey. Brian Bourassa is all for a survey,
but asked if this was the first item the group should focus on.
Dan Kieger said the survey would give the group some additional
direction. Ray said the breakdown of the information from the
survey is valuable. Marty made reference to the last survey and
the information within it. Ray said to build a good survey you
must know user groups. He continued by stating he thought the
neighborhood groups should be gotten in contact with. Marty
mentioned he thought the best way to get in touch with the
neighborhood groups was through the Crime Watch Program the Lino
City of Lino Lakes
