Lino Lakes Park Board Meeting
Tuesday, January 11, 1994
The City of Lino Lakes regular Park Board meeting was called to
order at Lino Lakes City Hall by chairperson George Lindy at 6:25
pm. Roll call was taken, other members in attendance were Brian
Bourassa, Ken Johnson and Bob Williams. Also in attendance was
Linda Elliott, Council liaison to the Park Board, Marty Asleson,
Parks, Recreation and Forestry Coordinator and Carole Kohler,
Secretary to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
Please note that this meeting will be shorter than originally
scheduled for a number of reasons. There was some difficulty in
scheduling enough members for a quorum, as the board is reduced to
five members since January 1st because several member's terms
expired at that time and replacements will not be named until after
the council has had time to review new applicants. This will be at
least another two weeks. A quorum was needed as the board would
vote on their acceptance and recommendation of the "old Forjay
building" as temporary re-locate site for the parks and recreation
department. This issue is covered further in these minutes.
Schedule Public Hearing - George Lindy pointed out that a public
hearing must be held in order to amend the Comprehensive Park Plan
to show that a different site has been identified for the proposed
future recreation complex. The new site is located east of Holly
Drive and north of Co. Rd. J.
MOTION•
Brian Bourassa made a motion to set a public hearing date for
February 7, 1994 at 6:30 pm at the start of the February Park Board
meeting to amend the Comprehensive Park Plan to show a new site was
identified for the future recreation complex.
The motion was seconded. All were in favor. Motion carried.
Boardwalk Standards - Marty Asleson explained that there will be a
need for more boardwalks through wetlands as more developments come
into the city, mainly because wetland laws are rapidly changing. He
suggested the board look at setting a standard for boardwalks so
that all future developments will have a uniform style of boardwalk
where needed and the developer will have a guideline to follow.
Marty discussed both the plastic fiber type and the wooden type. He
pointed out that the installed cost is approximately the same for
both, around $75 - $80 per lineal foot. He has seen both and finds
the wooden style designed by Brauer & Associates to be more
aesthetically pleasing. The treated wood material will last as long
as the fiber type. Marty also stressed that he feels the Brauer
boardwalk has a larger weight bearing capacity, needed particularly
when city equipment is used on it.
A discussion followed where all agreed that the Brauer boardwalk
would be the best because of the weight bearing capacity, longevity
