Lino Lakes Park Board Meeting
Tuesday, January 11, 1993
dollars into the Shores of Marshan Park Building. " (A copy of this
letter is attached at the end of these minutes. ) The council
proposal estimates the cost of the move/renovation to be $63,500.
Linda went on to explain that the council did not have a lot of
information for the last park board meeting in December because the
proposed budget was still being put together at that time. Funds
for the move/renovation of the Shores of Marshan Park Building will
be taken from a variety of sources. The council has asked that the
Park Board consider spending $12,500 from Dedicated Park funds,
along with $8,500 of Solid Waste funds and $42,500 from the General
Fund. She explained that if the park board does not recommend the
spending of the $12,500 from Dedicated Park funds for the
renovation, that the department will be moved regardless, to rental
space in the area, as it has been already decided that this
department will be moving from City Hall.
George Lindy expressed that he is totally supportive of the council
proposal. He feels that the investment of $12,500 to renovate the
building coupled with the initial investment of $13,000 to purchase
it, and end up with a building worth over $60,000 is a good value
for the dollar.
A polling of the board showed the following: George Lindy in favor,
as stated above. Ken Johnson agreed, this is a good value for the
investment, even though he doesn't feel this is a number one
priority for expending dedicated park dollars, he feels that the
board should work with the council in as much as they will be
asking the council to support them in future projects, such as
funding for a recreation complex. Bob Williams explained that he
was not in favor of this project in the beginning, but after
looking over the building, he too, feels that this is a good value
for the investment. He thinks if the board can obtain additional
property adjoining, it will be a good future park area. Brian
Bourassa also agrees that this is a good value for the investment,
but reminded the board that they had previously agreed that
spending park funds on a renovation project for city offices was
the lowest on their priority list.
MOTION: A motion was made and seconded, and a vote of the board
showed that George Lindy, Ken Johnson, Bob Williams and Joe Schmidt
voted in favor of recommending that council proceed with plans to
use $12, 500 of dedicated park funds to renovate the Shores of
Marshan Park Building for Parks and Recreation Department use.
Brian Bourassa abstained from voting. It should be noted here that
although Joe Schmidt did not attend this meeting, he had given
Marty Asleson his proxy vote in favor of the project. Motion
passed. Mr. Schmidt asked Marty to also reiterate his feelings
favoring the use of temporary walls in the renovation of the
3
