PARK BOARD MEETING
November 13, 1990
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ray Johnson at
7: 00 PM at Lino Lakes City Hall. Members present were: Ray
Johnson, Bob Williams, Ken Johnson, John Baumann, and George
Lindy. Absent was Candy Toffoli and Bill Nissen. Staff in
attendance were Marty Asleson, Supt. of Parks, Rec &
Forestry, and Carole Kohler, Parks Secretary. Don Volk,
Director of Public Works attended the latter part of the
meeting.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES: Marty Asleson asked that the
minutes from the October 1, 1990 meeting be changed with
reference to the purchase of the vibratory plow. This plow
was purchased by the County, Lino Lakes will be able to use
it. The minutes mis-interpreted this as a purchase by the
City with matched funds by the County. The minutes were then
approved as corrected.
OPEN MIKE: Jim Warnest from the Centennial Little League
appeared under open mike. He gave the board an update on
their Little League program. Mr. Warnest explained the
increase in the number of participants next year, they have
made some changes. They'll be eliminating the 13 - 15 year
old age group and adding an 8 year old coach pitch league.
But the program will be a field short next Spring. He was
requesting the use of the Birch Park ball field for Monday
through Thursday nights for the upcoming ball season. He
offered the help and cooperation of all parents in the Little
League for any needs we have for maintaining fields, etc. .
George Lindy stated that he would prefer to see the parks
used for the neighborhood kids only - he doesn't really like
to take reservations for the fields. Warnest pointed out that
all the other fields in the areas are already being used, and
explained that Lexington will be changing a kid's field to an
adult field next Spring. Ray Johnson asked if they couldn't
use Shenandoah Park as there is already a backstop there. But
Warnest says they need both a softball and a baseball field.
Ray asked for the general consensus of the board. All agreed
that they would like to see the park stay opened to the
neighborhood, but recognize the needs of the Centennial
Little League. George Lindy made a motion to allow Centennial
Little League to use Birch Park from mid May to July 10 next
Spring - from 5:30 PM to dark Monday through Thursday, with
the condition that the Park Board can revoke the use of the
field if a neighborhood problem arises. The motion was
seconded and carried unanimously.
Page 1
