PARR BOARD MEETING
JUNE 1, 1992
John Bauman feels that we need a way to finance the Parks and
Recreation Department and if not a golf course, then something
else. He wondered if Al Robinson would be interested in having the
City get involved in his golf course project. Marty Asleson will
get in touch with Al Robinson regarding this suggestion. He (Marty)
commented that there are still a few different options if we want
to pursue the idea.
RECREATION IN LEISURE SERVICES - Marty Asleson referred to the
packet material he sent regarding a Recreation Advisory Board. He
presented a draft resolution that he will ask the City Council to
adopt. The resolution concerns a Recreation Advisory Board made up
of approximately 8 to 10 citizens representing various aspects in
the community, such as senior citizens, someone who has served on
the comprehensive park plan committee, disabled/handicapped and
others.
All the board members agreed that this is a good idea. They think
that a group representing the youth should be separate from this
board, and suggested Barry Bernstein, Recreation Program Supervisor
as a liaison. We will advertise for these representatives in the
City Newsletter, Cable and other sources. The board needs to set
up a criteria for selecting a committee. Marty will set up
guidelines and criteria from a staff level. He will pursue the
resolution at Council level. This will be discussed further at a
future meeting.
RECREATION UPDATE - Barry Bernstein, Recreation Program Supervisor,
gave an update of the upcoming summer programs. He reported that
registration for summer youth programs has been going very well.
The most popular offering has been t-ball, we have had to add
another session. Golf and tennis lessons are going very well, and
he plans on offering adult open volleyball at the sand volleyball
courts at Sunrise Park. Mr. Bernstein asked the board if they had
any comments or suggestions on the programs, and to get in touch
with him if wanted to discuss the program offerings.
Other New Business -
LINO DAYS - Marty Asleson talked about the Lino Days celebration
coming up on Saturday, August 15th. So far committee members are
working on plans for a 5 mile foot race around Rondeau Lake. Barry
Bernstein will try to plan his season end softball tournaments for
the same week-end so that people can get involved in some ballgame
spectator fun. Ray Johnson is Chairman from the Lions Club and
reported that the Lions Club has plans for a Pedal Power Tractor
Pull and also expect the Wellness Health Van to be on hand.
5
