CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1993
OLD BUSINESS (CONT'D. )
Park Updates - Marty Asleson gave updates on the following:
Leonard and Bradley Park - area is being final graded now. The
playground equipment will be delivered by the end of the week.
Neighbors will be organizing an equipment raising get together.
This project is moving along as expected.
Birch Park - second annual neighborhood meeting was held last week
at the park. Aside from the many neighbors, it was attended by
Marty Asleson, John Baumann and Jeanie Kenow, City Community
Service Officer. Marty reports that this seems like a very good
neighborhood group. Everyone sat around and visited. He says they
asked many good questions about parks and recreation issues and had
some good ideas. John Baumann thinks one of the reasons this is
such a good group is because they have had a lot of input and
actually have worked in rk - they seem to have a feeling of
ownership regardin -i-he- ark. Marty says he wants to get a
neighborhood group toge er in the same way for Birchwood Park.
Athletic Complex site search - committee meeting will be October
5th. This committee is comprised of the original comprehensive plan
committee. Marty Asleson will report back at the next meeting.
Basketball Court at Arena Acres Park - base is set in and the hoop
is ordered. Everything is going well. Brian Bourassa commended Tom
Jensen on the fine job he did with this project.
LaMotte Park - volleyball set is ordered for the park, and the
bench and picnic table will be coming soon. There has been no
communication from the neighbors since the neighborhood meeting
early last Spring.
Friends of the Parks - has gotten another corporate donation. Gary
Uhde a developer in the City has donated $1200. The donations are
slowly coming in, particularly since the notice was in the Fall
Parks and Recreation brochure. A used popcorn popper has been
purchased and will be used to make popcorn to sell at Performances
in the Parks and other upcoming City projects.
Recreation Updates - Marty Asleson reviewed the Fall and Winter
Parks and Recreation brochure with the board. He also informed them
that the city has just hired Becky Dvorak, for the therapeutic
recreation position. She will be part time and will be using Barry
Bernstein's office at Centennial School. Becky will be introduced
at the next park board meeting.
3
