CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, JULY 12, 1993
have requested a "wish list" to help them decide which particular
project they would like to become involved in.
Marty Asleson explained a donation to the foundation from residents
Kathy and Mark Urich in memory of their daughter. They have donated
$3000 they would like to see used for a piece of play equipment in
Sunrise Park. They have selected a train type piece of equipment
that meets all standards and regulations required by the city. The
total cost of this train is $3850. The Urichs have requested the
additional monies be donated either from the Friends of the Parks
Foundation or the Dedicated Park Fund, although they say they will
try to finance the entire amount themselves if need be.
MOTION: Joe Schmidt made a motion to recommend to council to spend
$850 from the park fund to complete the Mark and Kathy Urich
project at Sunrise Park. Motion was seconded by Jacquelyn Farm and
carried by unanimous vote.
OTHER OLD BUSINESS:
Ballfields used for Tournaments - Ken Johnson questioned what had
happened to Mr. Ron Ingram's request to use city ballfields for
tournaments. Marty Asleson explained that he had researched other
cities and found that very few have let their fields be used this
way. He felt that for the little the city would have gained, it was
not worth the problems that may have come from this. He thinks it
would work better if the city ran it's own tournaments, that's
something that will be looked at for next year.
NEW BUSINESS°
a. Recreation Updates
Performances in the Parks - So far there have been two
performances. The turn out has been good about 100 to 150 persons
each time. The next program will be Stomp n' Dixie, a dixieland
band at Birch Park and there are reports that the neighborhood is
excited and looking forward to it. The last of the six programs
will be at Country Lakes Park on August 8th.
Therapeutic Recreation Person - The department has received
applications for the position of therapeutic recreation specialist
and has received a good response of very well qualified people.
Interviews should start in the next two weeks. There is not room
for additional staff at City Hall, the new person may have to take
over the office the Recreation Department has at Centennial School.
Summer Programs - All of the playground programs will be ending
,.. next week. Even though the weather has been very un-cooperative
9
