AGENDA ITEM -* 4"- C STAFF ORIGINATOR Marty Asleson DATE July 29, 1993 TOPIC Athletic Complex Property Update BACRGRON The A-3 Athletic Complex in our Comprehensive Plan was selected for different criteria, including at that time, an area out of the growth area. Since the Park Board has placed a priority on acquiring this area, the process has taken about 2 years to get to the point of approving dollars to develop finance options and legal help with the process. It appears now that we have waited too long as was discussed at the last Park Board meeting. Staff was to look at several alternative sites that might be used for the same purpose. We have done this. It is felt that the best way to sort this out is to pull together a committee, perhaps our original ad- hoc committee to look at the criteria for selection and the alternative sites, and make a decision on acquisition. We did take some slides of some of the areas. I will bring them to the Park Board meeting. . OPT:IQNB:>::>::: ....: ........>:::<::::> It appears that we need to look for an alternative site, select it and then move fast enough to make acquisition possible. I have discussed this with the City Administrator and Bill Hawkins so that when we have a site selected, Bill can develop the financing options and secure the parcel. RECDMMENDAT:I:ON::::;: Pull together the above mentioned committee, select a site out of the MUSA and proceed with acquisition.
