AGENDA ITEM
STAFF ORIGINATOR Marty Asleson
DATE June 6, 1993
TOPIC JU-3, Joint Use Park Birch Street South of
Sherman Lake
With the encroaching development around the S. Sherman Lake area it
was felt that we should move forward on ensuring open space as a
neighborhood park at the site identified as JU-3 on page 6-82 of
our comprehensive plan. There has been a 10 acre open space need
identified on the parcel of land that now is owned by the
Centennial School District.
Please refer to the previous correspondence that I have had with
Superintendent McClellan concerning this issue. I attended the
school board meeting -on the 21 st of June to present our
comprehensive park plan and needs in this area. A request was
given to allow us to enter into a cooperative use agreement for 10
acres of this land, and if the School District ever intends to sell
this property that we would be given a first consideration to
purchase it. There was in 1987 a similar agreement that was
written, that fell by the wayside for one reason or another.
The Centennial School Board agreed to the cooperative use agreement
(please see June 21st letter from John McClellan) , but were
unwilling to give us a formal first consideration to purchase our
park needs if they should decide to sell. They did say that we
would in all probability be considered first if the above mentioned
occasion would arise.
1. Pursue the cooperative agreement with Centennial School
District for the use of land south of Sherman Lake.
2 .. Do not pursue this agreement
Make a recommendation to pursue the agreement.
