March 27, 1993
Mr. John McClellan
Superintendent Centennial School District
Independent School District No. 12
Dear Mr. McClellan
I noticed in your February 22, School Board minutes the motion to
trade approximately 8 acres of land on the east side of the School
Districts property on Birch Street just west of the Pheasant Hills
Preserve Development, for land to the west and adjacent to the
existing School District property. There was also some discussion
of selling the remaining land in the future. Please take a minute
to review our intended Parks and Recreation land needs in this
area. Park plate No. : 29 on page 6-82 of our Comprehensive Plan
describes this need.
As has worked out very well for the School District, City of Lino
Lakes and tax-payers, the Rice Lake Elementary School Joint Use
r Park is a similar sort of land public use. Thank you very much for
this. The interaction (partnership) between Centennial School
District and the City of Lino Lakes is a stated goal in our
Comprehensive Plan. The partnership works well. The JU-3 Park area
as identified on page 6-62 of our plan is a similar partnership
use.
The City of Lino Lakes Park Board would like to begin discussions
with you concerning the development of a joint use agreement for a
needed 10 acre park (JU-3) in this area. If your School Board
intends to sell this land in the future we would like the
opportunity to purchase 10 acres of land to the west of the Vaughn
property.
Of course the biggest value to the city is that of another
partnership. We cannot however miss the opportunity to acquire
land in this area. This parcel is strategically important for park
use. Please call me if you have any questions concerning this
letter. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
Sincerely
Marty Asleson
Parks Recreation and Forestry Coordinator
City of Lino Lakes
Jam`
