CITY OF LINO LAKES PARK BOARD MEETINGU `u MAY 3RD1 1993 The regular meeting of the Lino Lakes Park Board was called to order at 6:35 PM at Lino Lakes City Hall by Vice Chairperson Ken Johnson. Roll call was taken, members in attendance were Bob Williams, Brian Bourassa, John Bauman, Ken Johnson and Joe Schmidt. George Lindy was in attendance at 6:40 PM. Member absent was Jacquelyn Farm. Also in attendance were City Council Member Linda Elliott, liaison to the park board, Marty Asleson, Parks, Recreation and Forestry Coordinator, Barry Bernstein, Recreation Program Supervisor, and Carole Kohler, Parks Secretary. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the April 5, 1993 meeting were approved with no corrections or additions. OPEN MIKE: Tom Jensen from Boy Scout Troop 136 appeared in front of the board with a request of $2000 in funding from the park board to complete a project he's been working on to earn his Eagle Scout badge. He came before the board a little over a year ago with his plans to build a basketball court on the corner of Andall Street and Woodduck Drive by the Municipal Tennis Courts. Since the time Tom first appeared before the board he has raised $2250 from fund raisers and solicitations from local businesses. He estimates the overall cost of this project to be $6000. ^ The proposed basketball court will be 45 x 77 ft. in size. It will have two backboards and two poles on each end and will be fenced and will have a bituminous surface. Mr. Jensen is hoping to complete this project by the end of summer. George Lindy questioned whether the estimate of $6000 is enough. Having recently had bituminous work done on his business, he thinks that the bituminous surface alone will run approximately $3000 to $3500. The entire board agreed that this is a good worthwhile project and are extremely supportive of it. They commended Tom for his efforts and suggested that he try to get more specific figures and come back to the next meeting. Marty Asleson will work closely with Tom to offer help with equipment and information on surfacing, etc. BALL FIELD USAGE - This item will also appear in the agenda under New Business 5-B, but Mr. Ron Ingram preferred to present this item under "Open Mike". Ron Ingram, a city resident and one of our parks and recreation department softball league umpires, appeared before the board with a request to use city ballfields to run tournaments on the week-end. This is something that he has discussed with both Barry Bernstein and Marty Asleson. These tournaments will be USSSA sanctioned. Mr. Ingram stated that there will be no alcohol involved with these tournaments, he wants a family type of event so more people can enjoy the city parks.
