CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MAY 3RD, 1993
city. There would be a maximum of 24 teams and no less than 12
teams. Mr. Ingram also noted that he will get all tournament
entrants involved in the community food shelf, as every player
would have to bring an item to the food shelf.
Mr. Ingram has suggested he rent the fields on a percentage basis
whereby the City would realize anywhere from $400 to $700 per
tournament depending on the number of teams taking part. He wants
to use the fields at Sunrise Park, Lino Park and Rice Lake
Elementary field 12. The tournaments will be scheduled for 11 week-
ends during the summer and they would run from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
on Saturdays and from approximately 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sundays.
The city would be responsible for maintenance of the fields.
Both Barry and Marty seemed to think that there is a possibility
for an arrangement of this kind and asked the board for direction.
A discussion followed where the board questioned how much actual
profit would be made after the costs for extra staff, materials,
equipment, etc. were figured in. John Bauman was a little concerned
that programming events all day every week-end would take away from
the time residents would be able to use the ballfields. Especially
using them for adults and denying youth the opportunities to play
when they want to. He wonders if we're programming neighborhood
parks into athletic complexes. Mr.Ingram responded that he goes by
the fields often and finds them in use only when the city has
programmed activities there. There were a few other concerns such
as what happens in the event of rain-outs, will the city still get
paid? George Lindy noted this plan appears to have city staff
support. He suggested Mr. Ingram get together with city staff and
work out more details over the next two weeks, then have Marty call
the board members with more information and be prepared to take a
few minutes to discuss this and possibly take a vote at the Sunset
Oaks neighborhood park meeting scheduled for May 17th.
LAMOTTE PARK - This item is also scheduled under New Business in
the agenda, but was moved up to accommodate Police Officer Bruce
Keller, in attendance, who was asked for his comments and opinion
regarding this matter.
Marty Asleson explained that he has been contacted by residents in
the LaMotte Park area who are concerned about older youth playing
ball in the park. Their concern is that the youth regularly use the
fields and hit baseballs out of the park and into bordering yards,
at times hitting other objects such as cars, etc.
Mr. Horst Franke of 6941 LaMotte Drive, one of the neighbors
involved, has purchased our Comprehensive Plan and points out that
the plan does not identify this park as an informal ballfield.
