CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
APRIL 5, 1993
The regular meeting of the Lino Lakes Park Board was called to
order at 6:30 pm at Lino Lakes City Hall on Monday, April 5, 1993
by Chairman George Lindy. Roll call was taken, members in
attendance were: Bob Williams, Brian Bourassa, John Bauman, George
Lindy, Ken Johnson and Joe Schmidt. Also in attendance were Don
Volk, Director of Public Works, Marty Asleson, Parks, Recreation
and Forestry Coordinator and Carole Kohler, Parks Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the March 1, 1993 meeting were
approved as written.
OPEN MIKE: No one appeared under "Open Mike"
OLD BUSINESS•
Neighborhood Meeting - Brian Bourassa reported on his meeting with
residents of the Sunset Oaks Park area on March 22nd. Also at that
meeting were Marty Asleson and Joe Schmidt. Brian reported that the
meeting was attended by at least 20 residents. He explained to the
residents the board's desire to upgrade the park equipment. The
neighbors suggested they would also be interested in a small
pleasure skating rink, a small ballfield and putting up a berm to
the west of the park to keep the ballfield activity from
encroaching onto neighboring yards. Joe Schmidt noted that the
neighbors showed a lot of enthusiasm and offered their labor to
help save costs, perhaps in landscaping and planting, etc. Marty
Asleson explained the costs involved in purchasing new equipment
plus site preparation, etc. could easily be over $15,000. The
neighbors were given some equipment catalogs so they could get some
idea of what's available and a meeting will be set up in about four
to six weeks. There was a discussion regarding the design of the
park, should there be a ballfield and ice rink along with
equipment. Also the matter of financial limits. It's important that
the neighborhood group know the costs involved and the budget
constraints. It was agreed that the neighborhood group be mailed
information regarding park design and budget limitations, and be
invited to the next park board meeting to get their input and
decide what the next course of action will be.
It should be noted that the Sunset Oaks park is also the designated
park for the new Apollo Meadows development, and there will be some
funds coming from that park dedication that could be used in the
upgrading of Sunset Oaks.
Short Term Goals: Short term goals and priorities as established by
the board last Fall were discussed. The upgrading of Sunset Oaks
1
