CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARR BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1993
before the board was Sergeant Ivanfeld. He explained that the Corps
Reserves are always looking for training activities and has a
wealth of human resources and equipment available for this type of
project. They would be able to do all aspects of work involved in
the project that could make good use of the unused land on the
north side of city hall. That would include surveying landscaping,
grading and even building a new shelter. Sergeant Ivanfeld
explained that the Government encourages the Corps to find projects
with civilians because it projects a good image for them and it's
good PR. He went on to explain that most of the people in this
reserve division are self employed contractors. There may be the
need for union approval, but in the past there has been no problem
along those lines. The work will only be done on the week-ends and
could possibly be completed in one summer. He would like to start
surveying this year. Marty Asleson suggested the corps work with
Brauer & Associates to develop a master plan for the park. The
Sergeant will send the plan on to Marine Headquarters and will keep
us informed. The entire board agreed that this looks like an
exciting project and are anxious to get started .
MOTION: Brian Bourassa made a motion that Marty Asleson work with
Sergeant Ivanfeld of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Construction
Battalion and his staff to prepare drawings and whatever is
necessary to set the scenario and then get Jeff Schoenbauer of
Brauer & Associates involved to set up a master plan. It was
seconded by Ken Johnson. Motion carried.
Centennial Little League - Marty Asleson reviewed the request by
Centennial Little League to use our fields again this summer. Along
with their request for use of fields at Rice Lake Elementary,
Shenandoah and Sunrise Park, they have asked for the use of Birch
Park from 4 p.m. to dark Monday through Friday. George Lindy seems
to think that using Birch Park every night may be too much. He
doesn't want to see anyone monopolizing the facilities. Marty
explained that there has been a re-structuring of the Little League
organization in this area, and that in the near future there will
be a Lino Lakes Little League. The focus will be more on the demand
from our city. He explained that the league is willing to help us
with improvements and have the funds to make the investment. Barry
Bernstein and Marty Asleson will draft a letter to confirm limited
use and compromise to the Centennial Little League.
All Boards Meeting - The Mayor and Council has suggested a goal
setting session where all boards of the city will meet together
with them in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss issues pertinent to
their group. This goal setting session is scheduled for this
Saturday, February 6th. Marty Asleson reminded the board of the
5
