CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARR BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1993
soccer facility at the new Centennial Sports Arena. There is a
charge to us of $55 per hour. Barry Bernstein thinks that we could
use the arena for approximately 5 hours per week at a total charge
of $2200 for 8 weeks. This would accommodate two adult soccer
leagues, one men's league and one co-rec league. Other costs
involved would include sports officials, time keepers and
miscellaneous trophies. Total expenses would be $3922 . Income
generated from entry fees for 6 men's teams and 4 co-rec teams
would be $4740, showing a profit of $817. As long as this is a new
venture we will not have to sign a contract for the use of the
arena. Marty Asleson asked the board for a motion to approve the
use of the arena.
MOTION: John Bauman made a motion to recommend that the Parks
and Recreation Department rent the Centennial Sports Arena to
program adult indoor soccer leagues. The motion was seconded by
Brian Bourassa. All were in favor. Motion carried.
Star of the North Games: The star of the North Summer Games is
an olympic style, multi sport competition held annually for all
Minnesota amateur athletes regardless of age or ability. It will
conduct its 1993 Summer Games in the north metro communities of
Blaine, Circle Pines, Fridley, Mounds View, New Brighton and Spring
Lake Park. Star of the North Games will sponsor their 10, 000 Lakes
Classic adult softball tournament in the north metro area on June
12-13 . We have been contacted by Brian Hegseth, Centennial School
District Facility Coordinator to support their efforts by way of
the use of our facilities and human resources. Our city council has
adopted a resolution to support the Star of the North Games. Mr.
Hegseth will be in contact with us as the plans progress. Marty
Asleson will keep the board informed.
Birch Park: Marty Asleson referred to a letter he received
from homeowners in the D. Erickson Addition in which they thanked
him and all involved in the improvements to Birch Park. The
improvements included a new warming house (the shelter donated from
The City of Shoreview) , lights in the parking lot and new swings
and a slide. The residents also stated that they would be willing
to supply the labor to paint the shelter this Spring. Copies of
this letter were also sent to The Mayor and Council Members and the
Public Works Director.
NEW BUSINESS•
City Hall Project - This is a follow up from the last park board
meeting regarding the idea of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves
,•- Construction Battalion using City Hall Park as a project.
