Star of the North Summer Games <br /> Background Information <br /> What The Star of the North Summer Games is an <br /> Olympic-style, multi-sport competition held <br /> annually for all Minnesota amateur athletes <br /> regardless of age of ability. <br /> Who Between 5,000 and 10,000 participants from <br /> more than 300 communities and nearly every <br /> Minnesota county compete in the Summer Games <br /> each year. <br /> When The Summer Games are conducted annually on the <br /> second, third and/or fourth weekends of June. <br /> Where Venues utilized for the Summer Games are <br /> provided by local schools, colleges, park and <br /> recreation departments, health clubs and other <br /> private and community facilities. <br /> Olympic Pageantry The Star of the North Summer Games includes <br /> all the drama and excitement of the Olympic <br /> Games, complete with a torch run and opening <br /> ceremony. The opening ceremony features a <br /> parade of athletes and lighting of the Star of <br /> the North flame. <br /> Medals Commemorative gold, silver and bronze <br /> medallions are awarded to the top three <br /> finishers in each competitive category.
