City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
n August 5, 1996
from the playground. Dense plantings will also add to that
problem.
George Watson was out on Wednesday to review the issue. Marty
included a letter from George with recommendations. (See packet on
file for recommendations) Marty also enclosed a copy of a
facility use evaluation for Sunrise Park that had a comment
concerning Birchwood Acres Park.
Marty asked the board for direction on the berm issue.
Paul asked if the passway could be at the south end and level
existing dirt . Could native poplar trees from another part of
the park be put on the berm. Marty said yes this could be done.
Joe asked if the new trees would grow to a point where they would
cover the area effectively. Marty said the ones that have been
transplanted will create a real nice screen.
Marty would like it if the residents would work with him on 5'
high selective berming, on the property lines, with plant
material on them for screening.
Amy said a wild area berm would be interesting. Maybe the
residents would like to tend a wild flower area in the park
Marty said he is not compromising safety and air circulation for
the berm.
Betty asked what kind of vegetation Marty thought about planting.
He said he has some trees around the city he could put on the
berm.
Joe Schmidt had concern about vandalism in the park if people
can' t see into the park. Marty said the neighborhood crime watch
group will contact the Park Department if there is a problem.
Carl Blakely, 6307 Painted Turtle Road, thanked Marty for his
hard work. He said the trail dead ends at his property and he
has an issue with this because people stop there, leave bikes,
and walk through the vegetation they have planted. Mr. Lindy
asked him what type of selective berming he would like to see
done. Carl said a berm nearer to the property line with
vegetation placed on it . George asked if wild flowers, tall
grasses and poplar trees is what he would like to see. Carl
2
