These issues relate to PROGRAMMING:
13. The county and local leisure providers should work cooperatively to administer more
recreation programming in county parks.
14. The county is rich in natural and cultural history. A clearinghouse for this information is
needed so that programming and program planning will be as diverse as possible.
15. Creative program cooperation should be sought to best utilize scarce funding sources.
This may occur in park development, park maintenance and activity programming.
16. Cooperation with schools should continue and new programming methods should be
identified and evaluated on a continual basis.
17. Networks between agencies, schools, and community education programs should be
fostered. Contact list should be developed and updated regularly.
These issues relate to NATURAL RESOURCES:
18. There is a need to identify environmental issues and concerns within the county and to
develop goals and objectives that leisure providers can work towards.
19. Anoka County should advance the idea of conservation easements and work with
conservation groups to create and implement goals and objectives of natural resource
protection and preservation.
20. Cooperative arrangements to protect and preserve city and county natural area
investments should be established; i.e. prairie management, wetlands water quality,
wildlife populations, etc.
21. Comprehensive wildlife management programs are needed to continue to address issues
related to urban encroachment on wildlife habitat.
22. The county should focus their efforts on natural resource based programs and facilities.
The county should inventory and identify unique natural areas and work towards
preserving and protecting those areas. Methods could involve other agencies and may
include conservation easements, acquisition or land covenants.
23. If additional special feature attractions are added to the Anoka County Parks System,
they should be natural resource based.
