APR-IS-SS 10 : '67 FROM:CENTENNIAL JR HIGH ID:6127607U!=12 PAGE 2/3
i
PARKS AND RECREATION IDEAS
OF CENTENNIAL STUDENTS
AND STAFF
On 04- 19-96 1 had an opportunity to meet with students and staff .
at Centennial Junior High to talk with them about their ideas for
helping the city of Lino Lakes in creating a sort of public wish
list. This list inGiaded some 5deas they thought would be
beneficial to area residents and youth alike. I sneke to the
students at random and gained some insight as to what they would
like to see in our city that would promote an attitude of
community and help make the city more attractive to our area
youth. Not all the students and staff lived within the city but
agreed that these improvements would be very beneficial to all .
Unlike the cities 20/20 vision program this was more of a straw
pole and the following list is what was relayed to me by students
and staff .
1 . A COMMUNITY CENTER
There was overwhelming agreement that a community center should
be constructed and that this community center should be fashioned
n similar in structure to the Shoreview Community Center. Students
relayed to me that this type of a building would give students as
well as adults and younger children, a place to gather and meet.
This structure was also sighted by students as a place that could
be used by more that just Lino Lakes Residents. Staff members
agreed and stated that the building could possibly have an impact
on criminal activity in the area by allowing parks and rec to
base their programs from the center and include police in some of
the athletic programs.
2. MORE ACCESS TO AREA LAKES
Students and staff alike agreed that the area lakes are not as
accessable to the general public as they would like them to be.
Several students stated that it would be nice to have a place to
rent a canoe or a fishing boat so as to envoy the lakes. Staff
members also stated that they thought that it . would. be nice to
have a fishing peer system on Centerville Lake or to allow
private individuals to cater to fishing and sports persons.
3. COMPLETE THE LAKES AND TRAILS SYSTEMS
Both students and staff agreed that the parks and rec system of
trails is very extensive, it does not seem to allow for the
travel of bicycles thruout the city and some areas are not freely
accessable. Citizens feel that the system currently in place at
Bunker Hill-s Park is. a working model of how-the Lino Lakes System
should be modeled.
4. GO KART AND MINIATURE GOLF
