Project Summary&Results
n
Project consists of securing a corridor of land along Clearwater Creek from Bald Eagle Lake to Centerville/
Peltier Lake to develop/preserve a greenway, trail system, and water resource management area.
II. Outline of Project Results
Approving grant funding for the Clearwater Creek Greenway Corridor project will allow the following
results/benefits to be provided in the region:
1. Secure a currently undeveloped corridor of land along Clearwater Creek in a high growth area for the
purpose of establishing a trail system and preserving the corridor for wildlife and water resource-
based enhancements. This will involve acquiring 15,000 linear feet of greenway corridor having a
width up to 1,000 feet which will extend from Bald Eagle Lake to the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes
Regional Park and into the Rice Creek Regional Trail,a trail designated by Met Council's Regional
Trail System. This will require the acquisition of approximately 360 acres. This acquisition will also
allow for a trail connection from the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park to the Hardwood
Creek State Trail at Bald Eagle Lake and into the regional trail heading south to the Mississippi River
corridor.
2. Allow for the implementation of water quality improvement projects within this corridor in
conformance with a recently-completed Clearwater Creek Watershed District Comprehensive Storm
Water Management Plan and Centerville/Peltier Lake CWP Diagnostic Feasibility Study to reduce
non-point source pollution generated from the watershed.
3. Allow the construction of a demonstration project that would expand the floodplain of Clearwater
Creek to reduce the velocity of water flowing through this channel, reduce erosion, and allow for the
enhancement of wetland habitat within the corridor.
4. Provide for the construction of improvements that would reduce the peak discharge rate and water
volumes discharged downstream of this corridor.
