.c,4 noka County
10-N Department
o
550 Bunker Lake Blvd.-Anoka,Minnesota 55304
Telephone 612-7574920 FAX 755-0230
February 22, 1996
Mr. John Velin, Executive Director
Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources
Room 65, State Office Building
100 Constitution Avenue
St. Paul, Minnesota 55155
Re: LCMR Grant Application
Clearwater Creek Greenway Corridor Project
Dear Mr. Velin:
The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to submit this letter of support for
the attached proposal to the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR). Our
. department strongly urges the LCMR to consider this Clearwater Creek Greenway Corridor Project
for funding.
This project will provide for at least two goals our department is trying to achieve:
1) Improvement of the Clearwater Creek and adjacent lakes water quality. These
improvements will ultimately enhance fish and wildlife habitat at our 2,500 acre Rice
Creek/Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve, and improve the recreational usefulness of
Centerville Lake for fishing and swimming.
2) Establish a greenway corridor that will connect regional park facilities through a trails
network. The Rice Creek/Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve would have a connection
link to Bald Eagle Regional Park and to the Hardwood Creek State Trail through this
project. As you are aware, a major goal for the Metropolitan Council Parks and Open
Space Commission is the establishment of a regional trail system connecting regional parks
throughout the metro area. This trail would represent a major component in that system.
Eventually this trail would be linked to the Rice Creek West Regional Trail and Ramsey
County parks under proposed future metropolitan regional park trails development.
Again, these are just two important outcomes that the public could benefit from if this project is
funded. Many other benefits could also be realized.
Y1
