City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
November 4, 1996
to discuss the different possibilities in relationship to some of
the issues .
TRAILS COMMITTEE UPDATE:
George gave an update on the committee. He said the committee is
trying to get a feel for the east/west and north/south trail
corridors . They are also interested in a connection to the
regional park and Washington Counties trail from Hugo to Forest
Lake and any other trails .
Marty reported the next Trails Committee meeting is scheduled for
October 30 . He included an agenda in the members packets .
Marty said after the first of the year there is going to be a
county and surrounding communities meeting.
ATHLETIC COMPLEX UPDATE:
Marty included a letter he sent to the DNR concerning the denial
of the $50, 000 grant for the acquisition of the athletic complex.
The DNR has given the city two extensions on a commitment from
n the city to proceed with this project . It was important that
this issue be resolved in that we were beyond the time limit
given to use on the second grant extension. The DNR is
interested in re-allocating these dollars and have their time
limits on this process .
This matter was taken to the city council work session. The
council was reluctant to turn away this money, yet the commitment
needs to come from the residents in the form of a referendum.
The preliminary results of the survey indicates that three issues
including the athletic complex may be supported.
The question of central location has also come up. Based on the
population growth on the south side and the diminishing land
appropriate for an athletic complex, and based on the search for
land on the south side, this location was as central as we could
find. Perhaps we should shift our search to real estate search
to values on the north or east side for comparison purposes .
The new grant applications will be coming out soon, and would be
looftkl timely for referendum purposes . This grant needs to be tied to a
specific location.
8
