la
AGENDA ITEM
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Marty Asleson
DATE: November 21, 1996
TOPIC: Lino Lakes Comprehensive Plan: Trail Issue
BACKGROUND
Northwest Associated Consultants has been working with the City of
Lino Lakes on the revisions for the City Comprehensive Plan. One
of the issues that needs to be resolved is trail alignment in
reference to pedestrian and bicycle transportation to the City
Center development at 35W and Lake Drive.
The portion of the trail that is in question is the section that
would extend north from the Shores of Marshan Development around
n Marshan Lake. Please refer to figure 6.3 Park and Trail System
Plan, Trail Section #18 .
Trail Section 18 is intended to be located within a linear trail
corridor that begins at Aqua Lane and runs north-northeast
following the shoreline of Marshan Lake, the edge of the wetlands,
and on the northern most segment, directly adjacent to or within
the regional park. The intention of this trail was to present an
opportunity to use the linear trail concept to its fullest
potential and take advantage of views across Marshan Lake and the
regional park.
As we all know, the realities of trail development change when
trails are proposed adjacent to existing properties. Please find
attached copies of letters from Mr. Mike Winge who lives at 600
Marshan Lake, and Mr. Glen Rehbein who lives at 7374 Lake Drive.
Both gentlemen are residents that live to the north of The shores
of Marshan on Marshan Lake. The trail alignment would have to come
very close to the backs of their houses because of the wetlands.
Our Comprehensive Plan is not an exact document in terms of park
and trail locations, but is intended to be flexible.
