The trail alignment from our Comprehensive Plan and the location
where it would have to go to accomplish this segment is depicted on
the enclosed Conceptual Land Use Plan. This segment of trail was
always intended to be a long-term goal, before our Town Center plan
was conceived.
There are two short term solutions that would work for the Town
Center. The first is obtaining trail easement through the
Gethsemane Methodist Church to the North, West to Lake Drive and
following the road easement to the north to Town Center. This
would require a fairly wide creek crossing at Lake Drive. This is
indicated by the dashed black line on "The City of Lino Lakes Trail
Proposal" map. The trail would also most likely necessitate the
removal of pine trees at Mr. Rehbeins property.
This map was developed as part of a trail grant proposal to the
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The green areas
indicated on the map are the trail grant proposal areas.
The second option is indicated on this map. This is the green area
that heads to the North from the School along 4th Ave. , through a
light-industrial area and crosses Lake Drive at a future access
point to Town Center. This trail would not have as difficult of a
crossing at the creek, and could be worked into the light-
industrial area that is scheduled for development in the near
future.
I believe that trail segment 1 in our Comprehensive Plan, the 4 .7
miles of transportation trail along Lake Drive should be looked at
holistically including the interstate bridge crossing for
pedestrians to the north.
We are trying to pull together a trails committee meeting for next
week to get their input on this matter.
OPTIONS
1 . Recommend modifying the Comprehensive Plan to the green shaded
area on the "City of Lino Lakes Park Trail Proposal" map.
2. Recommend modifying the Comprehensive Plan to the dashed line
alignment in the "City of Lino Lakes Park Trail Proposal" map.
This would abandon trail segment 18 along the west side of Marshan
Lake, North of the Shores of Marshan, and merging it with trail
segment 1 in our Comprehensive Plan via. an easement through the
church.
RECOHWNDATION
1 .and 2. For the very short-term, recommend the 4th Avenue
alignment, and, a change on the east side for the 49 transportation
' trail.
