NS1/
aY NORTHLAND
October 24, 1996
Mr. Brian Wessel
City of Lino Lakes
Community Development Director,
1189 Main Street
Lino Lakes,MN 55014
Dear Brian:
It is my understanding that a hiking trail is being proposed for the West side of Marshan Lake,
possibly terminating at the future City Center or continuing around the park to Birch Street.
I have lived on Marshan Lake adjoining the park property for nearly 30 years and have concerns with
this plan. The land along this side of the lake is all bog. In the spring the water behind my house is
,. deep enough to launch a canoe and paddle from my lawn to anywhere on the chain of lakes. The rest
of the year the bog is to wet to walk on. A trail thru this area would be very expensive to build,
maintain and patrol. The only high ground is within 40 feet of our houses and I would vehemently
oppose a trail across my lawn.
The set back of the homes along Lake Drive between the South side of Gethsemane Church and the
proposed commercial area at Lake and 35W would allow for a trail along Lake Drive and then dim
the commercial area where it could rejoin the park.
This would also be safer for the trail users,as the proposed trail is several hundred yards off the road
and quite secluded.
I understand that there is a meeting concerning this proposal on November 6th at 6:00 p.m. Please
advise me if this meeting date or time changes.
Sincerely,
Mike Winge
600 Marshan Lake
464-5222
13733 Lake Drive Forest Lake, MN 55025 USA Ph.
