November 6, 1996
Mr. George Lindy
& The Lino Lakes Park Board
Lino Lakes City Hall
1189 Main Street
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
Dear George and Park Board Members:
I attended the Park Board meeting and watched some of it on television after arriving
home on Monday, November 4.
I have been a resident of Birchwood Acres since 1992. One of the main attractions to
selecting our lot was its location to a neighborhood recreational park. We have since
waited 4-1/2 years to finally have 1-1/2 amenities in our park (playground equipment
and a backstop). I have two boys, ages 12 and 10, who have outgrown a playground
and would rather play ball in the street on a nice hard surface than play in the park. I
would rather see them in the park.
I was just one of the people collecting signatures on the petitions. The procedure took
a long time as we had to explain at almost every house why these things were not
already in our park. Most people had no idea what was happening and were totally for
getting whatever we could into the park now. The other big question was "Why wasn't
the playground equipment located in a more open area instead of hiding it in the
trees?"
I have attended many, many meetings and feel our pleas for more items in the park fall
upon deaf ears. I hear comments like "Why can't we use Country Lakes and possibly
put the picnic shelter there?" "Can't residents put a basketball hoop up in their own
driveway?" "Why are we moving so fast and trying to jam everything in the front part of
the park?" "What if people want to come and use the park?" "What about parking?"
And most of all, "That would be too noisy for the residents surrounding the park." It is
almost as though this should not be a place for our noisy children.
My answers to these statements follow:
